Cymbals

Cymbals are an ancient instrument that was and still is widely used in buddhist rituals, but the instrument's origins date back to pre-buddhist shamanic tradition. Originally, heavenly metals, i.e. fragments of meteorites, were also used in their production. However, nowadays it is similar to the legend of the seven metals from which Tibetan bowls are "made". The fact is that cymbals are made from the same alloy as tibetan singing bowls, i.e. 80% copper and 20% tin.

How to play cymbals?

The advantage of cymbals is their simplicity, which means that anyone can learn to play them very quickly. They are an excellent addition to a wide variety of spiritual tools and meditative techniques. The cymbal set consists of two cymbals connected by a thin strip of leather over the raised centers of the cymbals. When playing the cymbals, firmly grasp the strip of leather on both sides just above the cymbals. Then we strike the edges of the cymbals against each other strongly and perpendicularly once. This strike produces a characteristic high shrill tone with a frequency of approximately 3000 Hz. We hold the cymbals in the air until they become quiet completely, or we can move them around the room so that the sound resonates better. The second way to play is to let the cymbals hang freely and let them hit each other gently with just its weight. Then their sound is softer and quieter. With the cymbals, you can slowly walk through and clean the entire space, including the corners of the room. Similar to the bowls, the magic of the cymbals appears at the moment when they end and we become aware of the present pure moment.

Cleaning of space

The practice of cleaning the space is also related to the sound of cymbals. Cleaning the space is appropriate when we feel that some strong emotional burden is lingering in the place. According to the Chinese tradition of Feng Shui, all human activities leave some emotional charge in the space where they take place, whether positive or negative. Cymbals are an easy way to neutralize this energy and create an emotionally clean space. Of course, there are more means to achieve this, but cymbals are among the simplest and yet most effective instruments.
Tingshas can also be considered tuners. Their task, in addition to cleaning the space, is also to clean the listener's mind, which also has an effect on the body shell. That is why we present a sound sample for each set of cymbals, based on which you can choose the cymbals that appeal to you the most. Two cymbals in one set almost never play at the same frequency. There can be a difference of 10, 50 or even 100 or more Hertz between them. It is this inequality that creates aliquot frequencies, a special vibration or pulsation of the produced sound in space.
At the beginning of meditation, cymbals can be used as a tool for concentration, when we concentrate on only one thing, the sound of cymbals, which helps to eliminate all other distractions of the mind, such as surrounding sounds, thoughts. bodily sensations etc.
The cymbals are also suitable to be used just before playing Tibetan bowls. They clear and prepare the space for the deeper tones of Tibetan bowls and also prepare the listener's mind for the extraordinary experience of playing Tibetan bowls. It is also appropriate to use them even after the Tibetan bowl game is over, as a sign for returning to the material world.
